My name is Calpurnia Jean Carney and I am an artist.
I like to paint, sing, dance, and make jewellery. I was born with a very rare genetic disorder called BPAN. (Beta-propeller Protein Accumulation Neuro-degeneration). Less than 1000 people globally have been diagnosed with BPAN.
BPAN affects different people in different ways. For me, the symptoms are epilepsy, autism, and intellectual disability. I had expressive language delay until I was nine. When the doctors put me on anti-seizure meds, my language exploded and everyone finally got to hear about what I had been thinking about!
School was pretty hard. Socialising can be hard too because I don't like it when it's too noisy and I get anxious easily.
I'm lucky that I enjoy being creative. It is very relaxing, and my NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) helpers assist with the harder parts like adding the catches and tags. I have very low muscle tone in my hands and that makes this difficult.
My Mum Emily and I have been talking about this business for a long time. Finally, all the pieces have fallen into place and here it is! I hope you enjoy wearing my creations as much as I do making them!

Meet our team
Amber helps me with the wires and all the fiddly parts that I can't do. She also takes me op shopping every week that I love. I can look at different styles and colours and they inspire my designs.
I have these great trays that I can lay out the design and decide what each bracelet or necklace will look like.
Jessie Z helps me with styling my hair and outfits. She also takes photos of me wearing the jewellery. We did a fun photoshoot that you can see on the Gallery page here
And my Mum, Emily, who is doing all the administration and website stuff.
She used to manage a big costume jewellery company in New York before she even met my Dad, so she's pretty good at all the behind the scenes stuff.
